Uniforms are a much more common sight in some industries or businesses than others. For instance, on a military base, in a hospital, or in a fire station, you expect to see people in uniform. But uniforms aren’t always so obvious: all of the waitstaff in black pants and a white shirt are also in uniform, as are the retail associates in their polos and the mechanics in their coveralls. All of those businesses and industries understand the many benefits of having an employee uniform, including improved productivity and morale and better customer experiences. They may be different styles or colors, but the uniforms all do the same work. The one thing that is the same across all industries is that knowing how to remove stains from uniforms is essential.
Dirt Stains
Dirt and dust are a fact of life, but they can definitely stain uniforms. Most dirt and dust should come out with a normal wash cycle, but if they don’t you can attempt to remove the stain with isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol. Sponge the stain with the rubbing alcohol, then rinse the garment under cold water and launder it again.
Grass Stains
If you have to work outside, grass stains are going to be an issue. It doesn’t take much contact for those green blades to stain a uniform, especially if the grass has recently been cut. Use a mixture of 1 part dish soap to 2 parts hydrogen peroxide. Mix them together, then after completely soaking the garment in warm water, dump the soap mixture over the stain. Let it soak in for about 15 minutes, then rinse the garment under warm water again and launder.
Sweat Stains
Sweat stains, like most of the stains on this list, are easiest to tackle if you get to them right away. If they sit, they turn yellow. For this stain remover, you need 1 cup vinegar, ½ cup baking soda, 1 TBSP salt, and 1 TBSP hydrogen peroxide. Wash the garment in water and vinegar. Then mix the other 3 ingredients and rub them into the stain thoroughly, and then launder immediately.
Food Grease Stains
For greasy food stains, trust your dish soap. If it’s good enough for rescuing wildlife from oil spills, it can help rescue your uniform from that pizza grease.
